After a gazillion visits to San Francisco spanning over 35 years, I have stayed in 5 star hotels, rental apartments, and thankfully, with friends. I even rented an apartment on Russian Hill for a year, fancy!
What I want now is a water view (is there a theme?), out of the central tourist hubs, and access to one of San Franciso's greatest attractions, The Ferry Building Farmer's Market. The inside market and restaurants are open every day but the great food extravaganza is only on Saturdays!
There are three hotels that offer the Embarcadero views, I refer to them as The Three Bears. Papa Bear (sorry, its a tale as old as time) is the only one I have not stayed at, 1 Hotel San Francisco. Colleagues have said it is just lovely, and it is definately the higher end of the three bears. I love both Mama Bear and Baby Bear hotels, and of course you could figure them out yourself but I would love to tell you about them, how to get a suite at a great price, and what makes them both very special.
Up early, (since you have booked one of three hotels across the street), to grab an exceptional latte, THEN line up at the Primavera food truck for the world's greatest chilequiles.
Circle among the freshest produce you can imagine, and then head inside the Ferry Building for a bombolini or a malasada (don't ask, just eat).
You can work off the calories by walking down the wide sidewalks, all the way to Fisherman's Pier.

I love to begin research and cross reference information on these sites Vrbo, Agoda, Tripadvisor, and Booking.com, to name a few!
